Our Amber, arguably, is an English Pale. But I put it in the Mild category because I perceive the English Pale is having its average ABV pushed higher by the new generation.
Drawn from the cask, Our Amber Looks the traditional style: darker malts, pretty amber, inviting foam, clinging lace. Smells are mostly malt. Fruity Tastes are balanced by just enough hops. Chewy enough, this Amber sits in my mouth, soft, soft, soft. And very, very fresh. Had at a pub at the beautifully renovated Nottingham train station, this traditional English ale could not have had a better setting.
I went on Aldwark's website, turns out they are less than 20 miles north of Nottingham. So the adage that casks travel best in short distances seems quite true here. AAA is a new brewer, maybe two years old. They have a handful of beers. They repurposed an old cow barn into their brewery and have the photos to prove it. If you are thinking of setting up your brewery that way, these are the guys to talk to.
