Perkiomen Valley Brewery "Whats Up, Butternut?"
$15/32 fl. oz. growler filled at the brewery on 9/24/22 and sampled on 9/28/22
Notes: "Local butternuts & sweet potatoes, mashed with dark Maple syrup, Pumpkin Butter from Bauman's plus a few sprigs of fresh sage from our garden, and some dates combine for this favorite fall beer!" "5.9% ABV"
Look: A hazy dark copper colored body is capped by a finger's width of antique-white foam. The head retention and lacing are both very good.
Smell: Malty, buttery, fruity, and lightly spicy. Specific notes of butter, raisin, and cinnmon.
Taste: The flavor follows the aroma with additional notes of caramel, sugar, and soft sage. The balance and combination of the butter, dates, and cinnamon is superb! A moderate bitterness balances it and it finish with a dollop of sweetish and buttery malt lingering shortly.
Feel: Medium to medium-light in body and gently crisp.
Overall: This is not just an interesting and complex brew, it's also really well done. Kudos!

on draft at the brewery
dark orangish amber color, thin white head. Slightly sweet, does have some of the that butternut squash favor, and just a touch of the maple flavor. No pie spices. medium bodied.
