Heavy Metal Brewing Company is a super chill place with great people and creative beer. Dr Love (sing the Kiss song in your head while you read this) is a pastry imperial double stout. We got this in a crowler, chilled and opened one into an imperial pint glass for the kick off of the super bowl.
Look: dark brown, almost black. Small light tan finger sized head that dissipates quickly, leaving a small ring of lacing that does not stick to the glass.
Smell: dark roast (almost baltic like), sweetness, hint of praline and hops
Taste: roast and a hint of sweetness, swirl it a bit and you get praline in the middle nose, trailing roast, sweetness and booze on the end. No maple and a hint of hops.
Feel: pretty light, nice tickle of carbonation, no drying for a 12%
If you live in the Portland area Heavy Metal is exactly as advertised, super chill place with great ownership, fun bar food and fun beer. This beer isn't really a great addition to their profile. They say it is praline and maple but there is little praline and no maple. The 12% ABV is hidden well. The imperial stout really wants to be an imperial brown. We love Heavy Metal, love the people and love the food, didn't love this beer.
