Had a pint at Humpy's in Anchorage Alaska. Nice, if somewhat light Baltic Porter. Dense brown color with some light coming through. Small tan head with better than average retention and some lacing. Aroma and taste was malty with some sugar or molasses sweetness. There was some dark fruit in the finish, mostly cherry. Mouthfeel was light and crisp with mo alcohol presence. Enjoyable!

fun take on baltic porter, one of our favorite beers from our time in this quaint taproom, a little lighter and less intensely dark than many of these, and a little lesser on the abv than i have come to expect in the style. brewed with brown sugar and raisins apparently, although i didnt know that when i was drinking it, i didnt find it too sweet at all, and guess i assumed the fruitiness in the center of this was malt derived, a clever recipe then, and all quite subtle, as their best beers all seemed to be. nice luster to the deep brown liquid, short but airy tan head resting atop. nose of dark chocolate, dried fruits, and wet tobacco, sort of concentrated on the grain side but without much of the customary low end. if this is done with lager yeast, its not immediately evident in the nose to me, the ferment seems almost neutral, even as it warms up some. dark and milk chocolate in the taste, a little drip coffee but without any real bitterness, so this runs long, even if its not objectively sweet. again light on lager character, perhaps a german grain element sneaking in, a cooked sugar element, and fruity wet sticky pipe tobacco or shisha at the end, maybe some faint astringency. smoothed out fuller medium body, mellow to drink on, rather complex even without a big yeast contribution, and overall a unique and well executed interpretation of a style i wish we saw more of from american brewers. lovely.

9-2019 vintage 6.7% ABV. Very nice malt sweetness with lots of dark fruit and molasses. There is a slight cherry finish and no discernible bitterness with a nice lingering aftertaste. This is a nice one.
