really fun stuff here, i think a special version aged in oak, done with or for la bodega, the best bottle shop in anchorage and where we scored this bottle. loosely a belgian tripel or strong golden as a base, but done with grapes in the oenobeer style, not enough of that around, this is super clever, strong, and good. the oak is really just an accent to an already unique and successful beer, shiny and brassy golden and lively from the bottle. some belgian yeast in this, but not overly estery, i actually get some neat toasted spice character out of it which really likes the funk and tang, this is slightly bretty and wild to me too, and the fruit adds a lot, white wine tartness, red wine fruitiness and tannic character, they use sauvignon blanc must, but i swear this picks up a little red wine too, not sure what the barrels previously held but its deeply fruity like that. subtle cooked pineapple and apple, light mineral character, some biscuit from the pale malt, and some honey sweetness all through it. the alcohol is warming, the tartness picks up as this warms, and the belgian floral character is there most of the way too, this is really complex and impressively well refined for what it is. nice funk in the mix, a cool belgian mixed fermentation vibe, decent carbonation, not too much body even with the sweet, some tartness from the grape element too. glad we picked this up, way cool bottle. this brewery rules, doing some really ambitious stuff and flying mostly under the radar from what it seems, check them out!
