McFleshman's Oktoberfest is a rich, malt forward Märzen with restrained bitterness and a dry finish. It features both dark bread and sweet caramel flavors while staying crisp and clean. Our brewhouse was specifically designed for German styles so we really shine on this lager! Raise your stein and welcome autumn. Prost!

12oz can, adhesive label. Stamp on bottom lip is '5225OKT721'.
Clear, amber brown colored body. One thick finger of off white head with the pour, and this retreats to small islands and a thin ring. Leaves behind scattered small lacing spots.
Aroma of toasted malts expressing dark bread and caramel.
Taste is sweet toasted malts, with flavors of caramel and dark bread. Earthy and floral. Hints of citrus and dark fruit. Mostly the toasted malts in the aftertaste.
More than medium mouthfeel. Smooth and rich, and coats the mouth and tongue. Low bitterness. Good carbonation.
Moderate 5.5ABV% allows for autumn session work.

12 oz can poured into a tulip pint glass. This is a tough one to rate - on the one hand, there is a distinct sour metallic twang that initially seems to ruin this beer. However, there is an equally distinct nuttiness on the back end that I am really digging, with hints of vanilla and caramel - almost like the nuttiness that defines a good sherry. However, that is not exactly in keeping with the style, so unfortunately I can't recommend this beer for more than a single can (which is what I bought) for the novelty. Overall, it's a weird beer that I initially thought I would drainpour but ended up enjoying the entire glass.

P.S. A previous reviewer's description of "surprisingly deep caramels and toffees makes for an unusually unctuous maerzen" is in keeping with my take (plus the unfortunate sourness).

Chill hazed dark amber with a tall and lumpy off-white foam head that retains well while condensing slowly.

A nose of surprisingly deep caramels and toffees makes for an unusually unctuous maerzen, but the palate brings it down to comforting earth with more toastiness and a leafy finish.

It's much rounder and fuller in body than I'd expect, yet uniquely tasty.

Had on tap. Murky but mostly clear light amber brown pour, cream colored cap and thick lazy lacing. Smell and taste are the same: robust yeast is the star unfortunately, light caramel malt, acorn and grains support, in taste alone there is a slight beet aftertaste. Body is snarly with that yeast, but is thin and watery otherwise. Plenty of better marzens out there
