there are so many kettle type sours with fruit in them now that its really a hard style to get too excited about, at least for me, they all seem to run together, generic lactic souring, lightly citric, sweet flash of insert fruit here, and some tang to finish, its a fine trajectory, but its not thrilling anymore, and it takes a lot for a beer like this to stand out. the thing i like about this one is the rhubarb, its nice and natural to me, and at least as much tang comes from it as comes from the souring process, so there is a nice symmetry there and its clean, no weird sweaty character or anything, and its not over the top acidic either. the beer has a nice light pink hue to it, but doesnt look wildly fruited. i think there is some graham cracker in this to make like the crust, and it works, honey comes through in the taste balancing the piquant fruit, its subtle, but its there, and its smart. the rhubarb is somehow in front of the raspberry, which is to my surprise and delight, both are very natural here. quite tart, but one is good, and there is some grain keeping this from being not beery enough. i liked this, wouldnt rave about it, but its well ahead of the curve in the style, its hard to not be generic with these, and this one definitely isnt. well done.
