Picked this up recently at Bottles by Sickles in Red Bank as it was my first time there, since I missed the initial release at Source. I will admit that I love what they're putting out lately and this was another example why as it was every bit as good as something from Ommegang or imported from Belgium.
This had a lovely, golden apple hue to it with a few fine streams of bubbles coming up throughout my session. Tons of thick head topped it off as it look, felt, and tasted like bread as that was a good indication of the thickness of this beer's mouthfeel. The Pilsner Malt was felt somewhat in the taste, along with lively yeast and fruity esters. Combined with the lively pear, crab apple, and everlasting banana, this instantly felt like a Belgian beer in the aroma as that easily continued on the palate from the first sip down to the last drop. Golden, slick, and outdoorsy, there was a nice, rustic feel to this beer as the alcohol was exceedingly well-hidden as the orange blossom honey was present in the sweetness and thickness that tied everything together nicely.
Looking for heft? It's in the backseat as the taste and mouthfeel were enough to make me forget about how this was a true Tripel at heart. Canned on 11/16 with "BABY WOLF TURNS 2" written below it, this was a fabulous brew that would easily win anyone new over to this style. Love the moon on the label, as this was conditioned for a full lunar cycle, although I would easily have this again if it came in a plain container. I really enjoyed this and am glad that Source is putting out quality brews such as this, as we're all the better for it here in New Jersey!
