Black color. Thin. beige head. Maple, vanilla, and chocolate in the aroma. Sweet, malty taste with warming bourbon notes in the end.A bit too sweet for me.

Picked this up recently at Source as this was one of the bottles dropped as part of their 3rd Anniversary release. This was a strong, sticky, syrupy stout that felt like a fermented breakfast from IHOP but if you're into that sort of thing, like I am, than this was a pleasant surprise that needed a lot of time both to warm up, and enjoy, as this threatened to knock me into next week without me even realizing it!

Dark, dark blueberry pour to this as it was a few shades short of black with *no* head or lacing left behind at any point during my time sipping this. Tons of blueberry syrup and jam in the nose with pancakes, flapjacks, bourbon barrel, and a hint of raspberry in the nose as the taste was as thick, gooey, and reminiscent of compote. The liquor and wood really emerged in the taste as there were hints of maple syrup, molasses, cough syrup, and raspberry jam that really made this quite thick and a very, very slow sipper. A bit of pancake fluffiness rounded out the taste as the carbonation was low and the aftertaste was softly slick on the palate but begged for a napkin to wipe my lips with.

I have no idea why the ABV% listed on here was only 9.1 when this year's release was a more robust 13% as this beer looked and felt every bit that strong. While this wasn't something that I'd have for breakfast, I'd easily reach for this come dessert time if I had didn't have to rush my way through this. It's not often that a Stout aged in bourbon barrels and breakfast get put into the same sentence but this showed that it can be done, as Source has another curiosity here that's more than just a novelty. Get the griddle going and find your best chocolate chips to round this out, as this was a fun go-around that wasn't like anything I ever had before!
