Imperial Stout Conditioned on Peanut Butter, Banana, & Vanilla
This big, decadent, complex, imperial stout is layered with flavors and aromas ranging from toasted bread and sweet cereal malts to figs, candied dates, caramelized sugar, baker’s chocolate, and creamy espresso. It serves as the base of this thick pastry stout that embodies the harmonious flavor combination of rich, creamy peanut butter, sweet, ripe banana, and luscious vanilla. We cold conditioned these delectable adjunct ingredients with the finished beer to replicate a full-bodied, boozy, liquid version of Elvis’ famous sandwich (minus the bacon, but we recommend it as a food pairing on the side).

Picked this up recently at Source as this was one of their releases that coincided with their 3rd Anniversary brew that I was interesting in obtaining. Although I wasn't the biggest Elvis fan, I wanted to give this a go because I wanted to see if this was like one of his trademark peanut butter and banana sandwiches and in some odd way, it *was* like one of them. That's not to say that this felt like that in a bottle, but the influence was there as this was one of the more notable American Imperial Stouts that I've had in quite some time.
Of course, it poured dark as it was just a few shades short of being jet black, although the thin head settled rapidly and there wasn't *any* notable lacing left behind aside from an array of scattered dots along the back side of my glass. The aroma to this wasn't the most impressive either as it had plenty of peanut butter, bourbon barrel, and underlying banana as this brew's true essence emerged in it's taste. Raspberry juice, dark fruit, peanut oil, baker's chocolate, jelly caramel, bourbon barrel stickiness, and steadfast booze all combined to give this warm, rich, and invigorating feel that kept my attention until the last sip. Indeed, this was quite the complex adventure on the palate that might even surprise the King of Rock and Roll as this took the sweet, creamy, and fruity nature of his trademark sandwich and extruded it to the next level.
Of course, that was partially because of this beer's heft and this was stronger than it's listed ABV% on here as the bottle had this listed as 13%. If you can stomach that and have the patience, this would be worth seeking out as it had a nice range to it with the end result being something new and oddly familiar at the same time. In the words of the King himself,"Thank you very much"!
