Picked this up recently down at Joe Canal's in Woodbridge as I was excited to give this a go for the holiday season. Love my Cream Ales and this was another example of why as it was incredibly smooth, sweet, and devoid of all overt alcoholic presence. This reminded me of the better Carton brews from back in the day, combined with a perfect flavor profile for the (belated) holiday season!
This had a lovely pour to it as the liquid was a muted chestnut with enough light seeping in around the edges. Plenty of thick and even foam topped this off as it took it's time settling down, although there wasn't as much lacing left behind as I would have liked. Loads of coffee and creamer in the nose as the taste was equally inviting, smooth, and ultimately sweet. The milk sugar lent itself to the cloying mouthfeel and stickiness that was enhanced by the presence of toasted oats and sweet pumpkin pie. Hard to pick out the cocoa and spices here but the rum cake emerged once this fully warmed up as this was a perfect a nightcap as I've had in quite some time!
Indeed, the body was full and the carbonation just right as the flavors were plentiful and long-lasting without this beer feeling the least bit heavy. Sure, this packed a wallop but with so much goodness going on, the underlying warmth and heft only added to this brew's appeal. Dated 12/14 on the bottom of the can with "COTTONHEADED NINNYMUGGINS" written below it, this beer was the epitome (no Carton pun intended) of what I've come to love from Source since I discovered them. The cinnamon and honey were just present enough to enhance a beer that I wish that I could have again when next year rolls around, as this was up there with the best offerings. Props to Source for winning me over yet again!
