Introducing the next release in our Artist Tribute Series, where we pay our respects to our favorite musicians, artists, and people who have influenced us throughout our lives by brewing a special beer in their honor. “Abstract Revolution” is a juicy, high-gravity, philosophical, Imperial NEIPA that was brewed as a tribute to A Tribe Called Quest, one the most talented group of MCs and pioneers of hip-hop. Now at 9% ABV you may be thinking, Hmm, “Can I kick it?” The answer is — Yes, you can! This brew is surprisingly easy drinking, with lower perceived bitterness, a soft, mellow mouthfeel, and a juicy finish that is bursting with delicious hop flavors from four unique and highly aromatic, African grown varietals — Southern Passion, Southern Tropic, Southern Star, and African Queen. . We get notes of ripe honeydew melon, sweet tropical fruits, blueberries, guava, calendula, Juicy Fruit bubblegum, lemongrass, and grapefruit.

Zulu Nation in the house - and not just on the can! Although this came out before the Big Poppa, this was not the first beer that I had in Source's Artist Tribute Series, but it was just as fun as the beer brewed for the Notorious B.I.G. This was also the first beer that I ordered from the Tavour app, as this originally went on sale when I was away in May. I'm certainly glad that I got a hold of this, as it was plenty flavorful, fun, and done in the spirit of one of my favorite hip-hop groups from my youth!
Like Q-tips voice, the pour to this was as smooth as honey and nicely radiant as it was uniform in appearance and subtly radiant. A sufficient head topped it off although the lacing left behind was quite sparse, aside from a thin ring near the top of my pint glass. Lots of honey, peach, melon, spicy tea, and a hint of booze in the nose as the taste had some exotic fruit and pomelo underneath that. Not a lot of tang or acridity to this beer as it was relatively smooth, subtly sweet like a subdued Jolly Rancher, and quite strong underneath it all - much like Tribe's music. Loved the experimental HBC 586 as it complemented the Cashmere and Waimea nicely, leading to a familiar base with a twist unlike anything I've had from these guys.
To be fair, the alcohol *is* here and I felt it as I was finishing this up. Dated 5/31 on the bottom of the can with 'MIDNIGHT MARAUDERS" written below that, this came with a complementary glass that fit in perfectly with the vibe that ATCQ gave off. Crack open a can of this and go on an award tour - there was so much to like about this, to the point where I felt like this took me back. Here's to more releases from this series!
