Picked this up at the Bottle King last Friday, which was the day this was released. Most people in this neck of the woods would never admit this, but I miss Texas a ton and this beer captured the essence of an Austin-style IPA perfectly, as it was crisp, flavorful, and balanced. I wouldn't consider this to be an IPA but the addition of Kolsch Yeast does make quite the difference and having a map of Austin and shades of burnt orange on the label only added to this beer's appeal!
No surprise that this was cloudy and completely muted in hue as the gentle goldenrod was just as laid back and faded as a sunny day's down a farm-to-market road. A full, level head topped this off as it slowly and quietly settled down although the lacing left behind was quite sparse aside from a few hints of thin rings near the middle of my pint glass and a few spotted splotches below them. Lots of yeast, peach, tangerine, tallgrass, and melon in the nose as the taste was just as tangy, earthy, turbid, and slick. Such a lovely body from the oats and wheat as the latter felt cracked, with the aftertaste being full and just a bit sticky when combined with the hops. If I didn't know any better, I could have sworn that this was brewed by Lone Pint!
But...it wasn't and those of us here in the Garden State were in the for treat in having this available in our backyards. Dated 10/26 with "KEEP HAZYS WEIRD" on the bottom of the can, this felt like it came out of a tap as the carbonation was on par with everything else going on here as this was well-rounded and utterly easygoing at the same time. Grab something from Khruangbin & Leon Bridges to listen to as Source has another winner worth hooking onto here...
