Picked this beer up last week at The Bottle King in Livingston as I've fallen in love with them during the course of this year. Leave it to them to push the boundaries stylistically with this Fruited Sour Double IPA that once again, didn't have any apparent alcohol in the taste or on the palate!
This had the appearance of a Fruit and Field beer when I poured it out as it looked like strawberry juice with plenty of haze and a whipped pink head that was plenty spongy and long-lasting. Amazingly, only a few dots of suds stayed behind as the lacing was nowhere to be seen as that was the only aspect of this beer that I'd change. Strawberry fields, tart raspberry, guava, vanilla, and a hint of booze was in the relaxed nose as the taste was just as acidic, rustic, mildly tart, slick, and softly sticky - especially in the aftertaste. A bit of cherry, hard candy sweetness, and Michigan Copper Hops made this stand out from any other IPA that I've had as it was part Sour IPA and Fruit and Field Beer on top of the gently-hopped IPA that was this brew's essence.
Like so much of what I've had from these guys lately, this was quite deep, varied, and got better as it warmed up. The wheat and oats gave this plenty of body and the carbonation was lively and on par with the fruits that were present. Dated 10/26 with "SHORE TO LURE YOU IN" written below it, this was another brew from Source that was just as colorful, fun, and awesome as it's label. Drink this and enjoy the smile that it puts on your face as you get drawn in by the mermaids!
