This was the first beer fro Source that I did not obtain at the brewery, as I picked this up at Jim Dandy's in Nutley. I loved nearly everything else that I had from these guys and as strong as this was, this was a beer that was easy to enjoy in spite of it's heft. Apparently, the Visual Cortex beers differ with each release and this one was on par with it's label as it was quite colorful, deep, and trippy as there was a lot going on here but of course, it all worked out in the end!
Not a bad pour to this as the muted, bronze hue of this beer was just luminescent enough to hold my attention. There was some dark sediment that floated in it but by no means did I think that this was old or skunked. Enough head topped this off as it settled into a few rings of soapy lacing near the top of my pint glass. Lots of grape, mango, gooseberry, and Phantasm in the nose as the taste was equally varied, bright, and layered. So much smoothness, dankness, and juice here as this was plenty earthy and slick to feel like a Triple or Imperial IPA. The Phantasm and Cryo took this to a whole other level as the aftertaste was plenty waxy and the smoothness stood out from the first sip down to the last drop.
Plenty of guava and Citra stood out in the aftertaste as this had plenty of body and a lightly present carbonation to it. Dated 11/9 on the bottom of the can with "PHANTASTIC FACE MELTER" written below it, this was indeed a psychedelic beer that was a full as it was melting. Enjoy this for what it's worth and be grateful that the Garden State is home to a brewery like this, as these guys have it going on right now. Seek this beer out!
