First Christmas beer that I had in ages that wasn't something brewed in previous years and this was a fun one, as is the case with much of what Source has been putting out lately. Indeed, this felt like a York Peppermint Patty but with a little more depth and oomph to it as this was amazingly crisp and invigorating!
Of course, it poured dark as it was a lovely shade of roasted coffee with a massive, nearly-perfect mocha head that filled up almost half of my tulip glass and lasted for the duration. Tons of peppermint, vanilla, and freshly-ground coffee beans in the nose as the oatmeal, vanilla, and chocolate kicked in once this hit my tongue. Lots of fresh mint and subtle nuttiness rounded out the mouthfeel as this was wonderfully fun and perfect for the season, with a nice slickness to the liquid and fullness to the body at the same time. Very little carbonation here as this left like a melted dessert in a cold-brew coffee more than anything else.
That's because the alcohol was nearly imperceptible as I could have easily cracked open another can after finishing this off. The cacao and exhilarating winter day-feeling were present in the aftertaste as my lips were plenty sticky from candy cane sweetness and the oats. Dated 11/30 on the bottom of the can with "BUDDY APPROVED" written below it, this would be the perfect stocking stuffer for the imbiber in your family. Stay on Santa's nice list and get your hands on this before the season's over, along with the biscotti that it came with!
