No Farms, No Beer is a highly drinkable, dark, German style lager brewed in collaboration with our friends at Screamin Hill Brewery.
It was brewed using 100% grains grown and malted right here in the Garden State, including pilsner, pale, Vienna, dark Munich, and specialty heirloom corn.
The barley was grown Screamin Hill Brewery and malted Rabbit Hill Malthouse and the heirloom corn was grown a few miles away on our farmland.
This seasonal German lager was hopped for balance in the kettle with Hallertau Mittelfrüh, fermented cool, then spent an additional 8 weeks cold conditioning in one of our dedicated lagering tanks.
The result is a super smooth, lighter bodied brew featuring rich, toasty, nutty, malty aromas and flavors followed by a balanced, dry finish.
We get notes of rich, toasty bread, hazelnuts, caramel, a touch of cocoa, sweet heirloom corn, and a hint of herbal/ floral noble hops.

Picked this up at Source recently, as I've become a big fan of theirs in recent months. A big reason for that is because of the range of styles that they excel at brewing and this was no exception as it was once again a spot-on example of the style that was fun, flavorful, and so easy to drink!
Not surprisingly, this poured a rich nut brown with a fair amount of light seeping in around the edges. A ton of thick and frothy tan head topped this off as it was long-lasting and stuck around via lovely and deeply layered rings as I worked my way through this. Lots of nuts and hops in the muted nose as the caramel, almond, hazelnut, walnut, heirloom corn (which was reminiscent of the Colts Bock), and cocoa shone through once this fully warmed up. Dark, balanced, and a tad sticky, there were hints of dark bread in the aftertaste along with some slight burnt and roasted undertones that gave this even more depth than I expected.
The carbonation was lively, but not that noticeable, and as was the case with most of Source's beers, I hardly even noticed the alcohol in this. This finished clean as a dark lager could and had a label that reminded me of seeing the farms of America from an airplane. Canned on 12/7 with "GARDEN STATE GROWN" written below it, this was a beer that New Jersey could be damned proud of as the local ingredients used resulted in anything as good as what would be imported from Germany. It's stuff like this that reminds me of why I love Source and continually seek them out time and time again!
