What looks like a fruitcake, tastes like a fruitcake, makes a holiday appearance like a fruitcake, but doesn't get passed around like a fruitcake?
I think you know the answer!
I did too after having this beer that I picked up at Source a few weeks back. Indeed, this was as fun as it sounded but not as heavy as something your Aunt Edna would have brought to a family gathering. Indeed, this was fruity, full, and sticky without being overly kitschy or weighed down from the get-go.
Such a lovely look to this as this looked like the real thing, in liquid form. A good amount of spongy, bubbly head topped it off although the lacing left behind was quite sparse. Loads of cherry juice, canned pineapple, and candied sugar as the wheat, vanilla and milk sugar emerged once this fully warmed up. Sugary, dank, and softly juicy, this was less fattening and artificial than it's solid counterpart as it didn't last in my pint glass for very long, although I could have easily topped off the liquid with powered sugar once the foam settled down.
When you're having this much fun, the booze would be secondary to the ugly sweater and cheesy carols that would inevitably accompany the festiveness of the holiday that this would be the epitome of. Dated 12/7 on the bottom of the can with "NOT YOUR GRANDMAS FRUITCAKE" written below it, that was the indeed the case with this seasonally appropriate offering. No need to keep this in your fridge until your next relative's birthday as this was destined to be enjoyed now, down to the maraschino cherry that stuck around forever on the back end.
