Picked this up recently at Joe Canal's in Woodbridge around the time it was released last month. It said Milkshake IPA on the can but for some reason, this felt like the bread described in it's description more than anything else. Plenty full and filled with loads of dark fruit, this was enough to keep me warm on a cold night although it's alcoholic presence was quite recessed!
Quite a lovely look to this as indeed, it had the appearance of fruited bread with just a bit more big bits of dark sediment in it than I would have liked. Aside from that, this had a lovely look to it as it was topped off by a soft, salmon head that seemingly lasted forever with quite a bit of lacing left behind. Much of that was in the form of a thick ring in the middle of my pint glass with hints of layers the rest of the way down. A ton of orange peel, tart cherry, dark fig, and sweet bread in the nose as the taste strongly followed suit. Sticky, tart, and reminiscent of gluten, this was a syrupy beer that was full-bodied and warming at the same time. The orange peel could have been dialed back a notch, as that was easily the dominant flavor here from start to finish.
The carbonation was lively and this felt like something that I'd have at a family gathering at Christmastime - complete with fruit bits and a glazed topping. Dated 1/4 with "GETTIN' FIBBY WITH IT" written below that, this beer was certainly not for everyone but for those who appreciate something fun, outside of the box, and nicely crafted, this would be a hidden gem worthy of the holiday season and the Feast of The Three Kings!
