Picked this up recently at Source as this was a bit different than the original Big in Texas that came out late last year. Enjoyed the original and that was the case with this too as it was not quite like the other iteration but was true to from as once again, helped to make the argument that a Texas-style IPA should be placed into an entirely new category on here.
This had a wonderful, hazy golden hue to it that was topped off by plenty of quiet, long-lasting foam that settled evenly and slowly. Not a lot of lacing was left behind aside fro a few hints of thick and wavy rings near the center of my glass. Lots of floral, lemon, and sunshine (yes, you heard me right) in the nose as the taste had a good amount of cantaloupe, turbid peach and apricot, subtle dank hops, and a hint of fruit cocktail. Sticky from the oats and wheat, this was full-bodied, and even more lip-smacking in the aftertaste as the carbonation was light with a surprising bit of sediment that settled to the bottom as I let this warm up.
I only say that because this was dated 12/28 with "TEXAS SIZED 10-4" written below that on the bottom of the can, so there shouldn't be *anything* floating in the liquid given this beer's age. Besides that, this was a lovely beer that had me missing the Lone Star State, faded sunny summer evenings, and all things fiercely independent. I hope more attempts are this series are made since the first two were easy to drink and plenty complex, to the point where I miss being on the road again. Like it's state's unofficial slogan, this is a brew not to be messed with.
