Picked this up at Source right around New Year's, as I highly anticipated this release. Thankfully, this didn't let me down as it was an amazing brew that was plenty strong but plenty sweet and addicting at the same time. No doubt that this reminded me of the old Jello smooth/fruit and creamy bars that I had when I was growing up as this was wondrously easy to savor!
The pour to this, as fine as it was, was not indicative of this beer's worth. Sure, it was a muted raspberry gold with plenty of full, thick head that quietly topped it off and took it's time to settle down. Only a thin, well-defined ring of lacing stayed behind near the center of my pint glass as the suds settled to a thin cap on top of the liquid. Thankfully, that was amazing as the aroma of pomegranate, vanilla, cream, and farm-fresh berry exploded in the taste and never let up. Thick, bright, and sticky, the taste and feel to this was wonderful as the vanilla and milk sugar ensured that this would be a dessert set to hops and more than enough to be worthy of any evening's nightcap. Milk chocolate, bright sugar, and lively cream all added to the evening aspect of this beer as it was plenty strong, lightly carbonated, and topped off with the best icing one could find this side of a grocery store cake.
That's not to say that this was strong - it was and I could feel the heft kick in as I was finishing this up. Canned on 12/28 with "FOR AULD LANG SYNE" written underneath it, this was easily worthy of the New Year, and so much more beyond that holiday. So much fruit and cream to be had here with a juicy, syrupy feel that was plenty thick and sticky on my lips - which allowed me to enjoy this for as long as possible. Here's to a belated 2022 and for more brews that put a smile on my face!
