On tap at the brewery. Pours dark brown with beige head. Full crisp body. Taste is of caramel, toasted malt, dark fruit, brown sugar, toffee and herbal hops. Finish is long and semi dry. Tasty brew.

Source Farmhouse Brewery "Third Awakening"
16 fl. oz. can coded, "CANNED ON 06/06/23 09:24 LAGER" and sampled on 07/17/23

Notes via stream of consciousness: As expected, this Baltic porter is black beneath a large head of dark tan foam. When held to the light you can see that it's not quite black, and a line of reddish mahogany brown along the base of the glass. It's also not clear which isn't a big problem but it's normally expected to be. In the nose I'm finding notes of soft dark fruit (plum, raisin), a dull char-like roastiness, and dark cocoa powder. The taste is sweet but also bitter, and it's softly roasty, caramelish, lightly chocolatey, and fruity with an almost cherry-like note in addition to plum and raisin. There's a touch of alcohol to it, and a light spiciness that could be either from the alcohol, or hops, or both. A hint of licorice appears in the finish, and once you've noticed it, towards the swallow as well. The body is medium and the carbonation is soft leaving it smooth. Stylistically it should really be a bit fuller, and a bit crisper, but apart from that it's a very nice example of the style, and quite enjoyable and accessible.

Haven't had a Baltic Porter in a while but of course, I had to get this from Source since they excel at nearly every style that they brew! It's been a while since I had a Baltic Porter as this was a textbook example that was easy to drink, but every bit as strong as I expected...

This poured like raisin with a nice amount of light seeping in around the edges. A ton of massive, tan head topped this off as it complemented the liquid beautifully. Tons of it stuck behind as the deep, wavy, rings that easily covered a majority of my glass and was quite a sight to behold. This almost felt like a Belgian beer because of the raisins and dark bread in the nose as a lovely reinforcement of cacao nibs, plums, yeast, and booze came in on the palate. Those only got better as this warmed up as it was plenty strong and sticky throughout. The dark fruit took over near the back with dates and figs coming into the fray but even with so much heft and underlying complexity, this was an easy beer to sip!

Some may find this a bit too strong but the alcohol was on heft with everything else going on here. Dated 2/1 with "TALL, DARK, HANDSOME" written underneath it, I was glad that this was available near me at L Town Liquors in Livingston. When done right, this are awesome beers for these last days of winter and once again, Source hit the nail on the head with their take on a Baltic Porter. Lovely stuff that deserves more reviews on here!
