Picked this up recently down at Source as I enjoyed the other iteration of this that I had not too long ago. This was a decent brew that wasn't quite like the iteration with phantasm, as this was a bit heavier and more experimental on the palate. Lots of funk here as this was a deep beer that was fun to drink and fully emerged as it warmed up.
This had a lovely, waxy golden hue to it that was nicely hazed and topped off with a full head of foam that was a bit uneven at the top. It settled nicely although the lacing left behind wasn't that extensive aside from a thick ring near the center of my pint glass. Such an aromatic smell to this but it wasn't typical, as it was extremely floral, turbid, and reminiscent of citrus peel and full of the terpenes described on Source's Instagram post regarding this beer. The taste was just as oily, dank, floral, and outdoorsy as this felt like something picked from a flower garden and hopped up out on the left coast. Earthy orange and dry cheese, and pine rounded out the mouthfeel as this wasn't like any IPA's that I've had from these parts!
The booze is here but it was on par with everything else and the carbonation was light, as the latter allowed for the resin and oily nature of this brew to fully shine through as it warmed up. Dated 1/11 on the bottom of the can with "DESERT BLOOM" written below it, this was a fun beer that pushed the boundaries of what an IPA is without completely abandoning the style. The barley gave it body and complemented the hops nicely, as one can was enough for a session and for this to be considered a meal unto itself. Nice work by Source, as always!
