Collaboration with Levante Brewing Company & Crosby Hops benefiting Operation Underground Railroad
The Oort Cloud is a vast collection of icy objects that lie far beyond our solar system, surrounding it like a giant, spherical shell. It is believed that this is where most comets originate… Oort Cloud is a hazy, juicy, IPA featuring Estate Grown Comet hops (originating from Crosby Hops) alongside an exciting newer hop varietal, Vista. We brewed this one with a base of pale barley malt softened with large proportions of malted oats and wheat. It drinks with a mellow, medium body with very low perceived bitterness and a juicy, flavorful finish. Oort Cloud was hopped heavily in the whirlpool with Comet and Vista and then twice more during active fermentation to take advantage of additional aromas and flavors created by biotransformative yeast reactions with inert hop compounds, pushing hop aromas to the vast outer limits. We get notes of juicy cantaloupe, oranges and tangerines, ripe strawberries, bouquet of flowers, pear drops, gummy worms, sweet green tea, and candied melon. Proceeds from this collaborative beer will help to rescue children from sex trafficking and exploitation.

Pours hazy pale yellow, kind of like grapefruit juice, with a two finger head. Aroma is hoppy, citrusy, a smidgen lemony and some touch of peach. Taste is mostly citrus and perhaps a faint bit of lemon. Though the head was well developed, there is only a modicum of carbonation. The brew is light less hoppy than anticipated but good. In a crowded field of IPAs, DIPAs Hazies and West Coasties, this might get lost.

Pale, softly cloudy yellow body, pineapple juice; thick, white head, rocky and creamy. Excellent tropical fruit aroma; yeasty; papaya. Sweet, low-key fruity taste; powdered sugar and soft citrus tones; light to moderate bitterness. Heavy body; velvety and tangy.
A wonderfully tasty and balanced collaborative India pale ale.
Pouring temperature: 46 °F; canning data: 02/22/2022 END CHILD TRAFFICKING

This was another recent release from Source that I was able to pick up down at Joe Canal’s in Woodbridge. There's no doubt that I love Source and what they've put out recently and this was another enjoyable brew from them as it was readily enjoyable, plenty sweet, and nicely balanced from start to finish. The hops were here but the bitterness was quite subversive as the fruit flavors were more at the forefront!
The pour to this was solid, as the liquid was golden, softly radiant, and a bit darker in the middle than at the edges. A solid head topped this off as it was quite deep and long-lasting. That didn't translate over to the lacing as only a thin ring and a few spots remained once I worked my way through this. Thankfully, everything else about this beer was wonderful from it's enjoyable aroma to the sweet and fruity taste and amazing ease of enjoyment. Lots of strawberries, gumdrops, and softly sticky fruit were in the nose and taste with this feeling like something out of a sunny, summery patch - down to the dankness, yeast, and outdoorsy nature of this brew.
The feel of this was a cross between pure citrus juice and tea as this was effortlessly slick and reminiscent of a sunny day out on the farm. It was nearly impossible to feel any of the alcohol here as I could have easily down a few of these in one sitting. As for the malt and wheat, those were hidden on the palate but gave this beer the depth that made it stand out above typical examples of the style. Dated 2/22 on the bottom of the can with "END CHILD TRAFFICKING" written below that, this was a wonderful collaboration with a label on par with the end result. I loved this beer as this was a prime example of why I love what Source is doing these days!
