We brewed this refreshing lager with German pilsner malt and hopped it generously in the kettle with a trio of German aroma hop varietals - Hüll Melon, Mandarina Bavaria, & Grüngeist (“Green Ghost”).
Hoppy Pils was fermented dry with a traditional German yeast strain and dry hopped with more Hüll Melon, Mandarina Bavaria, & Grüngeist.
Post fermentation we waited patiently for many weeks while this crispy lager rested cold in a horizontal tank conditioning until we deemed it was finally ready for packaging.

Picked this up recently at the Bottle King in Morris Plains, as this was distributed up to my neck of the woods. Love Source's beers and this was a nice take on a German Pilsner that looked, felt, and tasted like it was imported. Yes, it was that enjoyable as this completely true to stylistic form and perfect for a mild summer's night such as this!
No surprise that this poured golden, bright, and topped off with plenty of thick foam that almost invited me to play with it. The lacing left behind was mostly concentrated in a thick ring near the top of my glass, with a few big spots of suds lingering here and there below that. Plenty of German hops, white peach, and melon in the solid nose as the taste had some cracker, passion fruit, and grass underneath that. Easy to drink and feeling like a true session beer, this was what I expect from a German Pilsner that's not watered down or too sour/skunky, as this had a nice and balanced body and just enough carbonation both to the eye and on the palate.
Thank God I kept all for cans in the pack since the labels were different, as this was a nice go-to for these warm days of August. Dated 6/28 with "BEWARE THE GREEN GHOST (nice touch given one of hops in this)" written below it, this was another reason of why Source is so criminally underrated here in New Jersey. Not ever brew in these parts has to be a hazy IPA and these guys have proven time and time again that they can succeed at any style they tackle. Pick this up and find out why for yourself!
