This was another beer from Source that I picked up late last year from the Bottle King in Chatham. Sure, I missed Halloween in these parts but with a beer that was this much fun, who would even notice? Lots of fruit flavor here as the acid was not quite as prominent as I expected as this quite deep and nuanced for a beer of this style!
Can't say that I've ever had a Sour with a hue like this, as it was a deep blood orange with lots of cloudiness to it and a moderate offsetting head that took it's time to settle down. Not a lot of lacing was left, which was a bit surprising given how full-bodied this was and bubbly up top. Loads of blood orange, pomegranate, and cherry juice in the nose as the taste had oats and barley to take the edge off of the acetate. Fruit punch, light tartness, and a soda-like mouthfeel made me feel that this should have been in a giant bowl, with a ladle to dish it out. Yes, this was that different but it was that much fun and a perfect brew for the Halloween season!
Not a lot of noticeable alcohol in this as the sweetness and cherry tang were enough to cover any booze that might have been felt. Canned on 10/25 with "SPOOKY" written underneath it, the most memorable aspect of this beer was it's amazingly freakish label. Thankfully, everything else about this was solid as it held up well over the last six months and was to it's description. A bit more carbonation and acid would have made this stick out more but in the end, this was fitting for October without being like most of the other autumn offerings on the shelves. Props to Source having a ton of fun with this!
