This was another beer from Source that I picked up at Fanwood or Garwood late last year, as it sounded interesting based on it's description. Indeed, it was true to form but not quite like other examples of the style that I've had before since it was full-bodied and less sweet than I anticipated.
The pour to this was like coffee, with a bit of garnet around the edges, as it was topped off with a massive, tan head that was full of huge bubbles! Chocolate, coconut, vanilla extract, and Barley Malt were in the nose as the taste was equally sweet, rich, and dry - all at the same time. A bit of cloying lactose, macaroons, cacao nibs, and bitter chocolate emerged on the palate once this fully warmed up as the bubbles were more present in the appearance than on the palate. A hint of caramel stickiness and chewiness stuck around in the aftertaste as this was nicely nuanced for a beer of this style, while still being easily accessible at the same time.
Just the right amount of alcohol was present as I warmed up a bit during my session but didn't feel that the booze was a distraction. Canned on 11/22 with "MACAROON NOT MACARON" written underneath it, this felt like a concocted dessert in liquid form that wasn't luxurious, but not full of sugar and sweetener at the same time. Lots to enjoy here, as the artful label was on par with the fun liquid inside of the can!
