This was another beer from Source that I picked up late last year, although I can't quite remember if I got it at Bottles by Sickles or not. Had a few of the other Visual Cortex releases and like this, this was smooth, flavorful, and not quite as potent as the listed ABV% on the can. Sure, New Year's is long gone but with an offering this lovely, who's to notice?
The pour to this was typical for the style - golden, hazy, and with a fluffy head that nicely complemented the liquid below it. Spotty hints of rings were left behind although the suds on top of the beer never fully settled down.Lots of tropical fruit, tangerine, deep and turbid hops, and candied sugar were in the nose as the taste was a bit more dank and dewy than the aroma led me to believe. Juicy peach, sweet apricot, stone fruit rind, and marmalade entered the fray in the taste as this was quite deep and varied without being overly heavy. Plenty of stickiness was in the back as the mouthfeel was full and the carbonation on point for a beer of this strength.
Indeed, this was strong but it was fitting given everything that went into this, as the the Galaxy and Simcoe shone through nicely, but weren't dominant over each other and over the flavors present. Dated 12/27 of last year with "HOPPY NEW YEAR" written underneath that, this was a fun beer for counting the ball down with, or for anytime where a strong IPA would be desired. Cheers to more of these from Source!
