This was another beer from Source that I picked up there late last year, as I never had this before. Can't say that I've had a beer that was this earthy recently, as it felt like something from the left coast that was taken up a notch or two to the next level. If that's what you're looking for, you've found your brew here although this wasn't weak or laid back by any means!
Like any good beer from out west, this was golden, waxy, and topped off with a moderate amount of foam. That settled down as there wasn't any lacing or suds left to be seen once that happened. Loads of earthiness in the nose along with pine, deep grapefruit pith, sweet potato, and dry-hoppiness as that was the case with the heavy-handed taste. Plenty dank with moderate amounts of weed and pungent hops on the palate, this was a true left coast beer that was enough to be a delicacy, and a meal, on it's own from the get-go. The fact that this was a collaboration with Ten7 was enough for me to like it more, as it felt like a California beer on steroids minus the overt bitterness and bite!
Of course, that meant that this was every bit as strong as it's listed 8.4% ABV as this felt every bit the part of an Imperial IPA. 1/10 on the bottom of the can with "WESTY' written below that, I loved the label as it was dark and inviting as the liquid inside of the can. Lots to like here, including how well this held up since it was produced, although it's not a laid-back example of the style from the other side of the country.Take this for what it is - a strong IPA that was readily enjoyable for those willing to take the time to properly savor it!
