This was yet another beer that I picked up at Source a while back, as it has a special connection to me. I finished up visiting all of the National Parks in the continental United States last year and if you're a fan of those in California, named trees like this hold a deeper meaning. That could be said for this beer as well since it nailed the left coast style perfectly and had me wishing that I was back on the left coast again!
The hue to this was a golden copper with a fair around of dark sediment floating all over it, with a copious amount of soapy suds topping it off. Lots of rings of various thicknesses were left behind as the head never fully settled down. Pine, earthy hops, and citrus pith filled the nose as the taste was just as sharp and pungent. Grapefruit, weed, deep forest, and a hint of scallion emerged as this warmed up with a slightly waxy and resinous undertone to this beer. True to form and fun to drink, this was a nice homage to many of the beers that got me into all of this as the carbonation was light enough to be felt but not to detract from the nice array of flavors.
Plenty of body from the barley as this was a bit chewy in the aftertaste, and a bit like a Golden Ale. Canned on 2/28 of last year with "275FT" written below it, this was lovely and had me looking forward to my next run back out that way later this year. If you can't see the tree, seek this out instead!
