Picked this up at Source late last year and enjoyed it a few times before finally getting around to reviewing it on this steamy summer night. This beer was so sweet that I thought it was a Stout, before pouring it out and having a look at it. Indeed, this was a Fruited Kettle Sour but with so much cake, sweetness, and fruit here, this certainly wasn't a typical example of the style!
Indeed, this poured like a sour as it had a deep strawberry hue to it with loud and fast-settling head that sounded like sea foam receding. No lacing remained as this was quite thin in consistency, even though it felt much thicker otherwise. That started with the aroma, as plenty of chocolate, cocoa nibs, strawberry, and cake were in it with the taste being full of milk sugar, strawberry patch, banana, cake batter, and powder. So much going on here but this tasted *exactly* how it sounded in the description as it felt like a liquid cake.
Part of it was because this felt like Neapolitan ice cream that was served in liquid form, with cake batter and yeast to enhance it. No date was to be found anywhere but once again, that was the only thing missing here as this was a worthy anniversary beer. If you couldn't celebrate Source's big day, this would easily suffice instead!
