Picked this up late last year down at Source, as this was part of a mixed four-pack. Hadn't had a beer of this style in a while and as usual, these guys nailed the style as it was plenty balanced and strong as all of the notes were in full force here, aside from the aroma!
Lovely deep chestnut hue to this as it was topped off with enough thick and bubbly tan head that evened out and took long enough to settle down. One well-defined ring stuck around as there was a fair amount of spotty suds the rest of the way down my pint glass. Not the strongest of aromas was to be had as there was some pine, grapefruit, leather and earthy hops in the muted nose. Thankfully, the taste more than made up for it as the Cascade, Chinook, and Amarillo were plenty strong and nicely countered by the Barley Malt that made this filling, chewy, and a bit drier than I anticipated. Coupled with a light caramel undertone, hints of weed and deep forest, and soft peat moss, and the end result was a brew that kept my attention throughout. This was a nice cross between the Troegs Nugget Nectar and a West Coast IPA that was potent, and addicting down to the last sip!
A nice slickness coated my teeth once I finished this off as the carbonation was recessed enough to let all of the nuances shine through. Dated 11/7 of last year with "HOPPY RED" written underneath that, this was another winner from Source that only needed a stronger smell, and a label that was legible!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
