When’s a Cream Ale not a typical Cream Ale?
When it’s a 12.0% offering from Source.
This was dropped at the end of February and since this sounded unlike anything I ever had before, I had to give it a go. Indeed, this beer was unique but quite enjoyable at the same time - if you had a chance to slow down for this!
Bright copper in hue and full of fine bubbles, this was topped off with a full and lovely head that quietly settled down to an even top and stayed that way for quite some time. Enough suds remained after each sip although a few dots actually stayed in place. Loads of whiskey, oak, and cream were on the nose as the milk sugar. cinnamon, and oak barrel smoothness came through on the palate. The booze was here from start to finish as indeed, this was as strong a beer as could be. If you don my mind that, this was wonderfully brewed as it felt more like a cordial or a mixed drink than a malted barley beverage.
Nicely carbonated, subtly sticky and cloying, and containing some dark sediment, this had an enjoyable mouthfeel as it easily left me wanting another cup - er, can. Dated 2/28 with “Top Of The Morning 2 U” written underneath that, this left me with the impression of a fresh-brewed cup of joe, with so much more going on underneath the surface. Really nice job with this one!
