No need to blow out any candles when you can celebrate with this winner from Source! I loved last year's iteration of this and this was on par with that as it was amazingly smooth, tasty, and just a lot of fun to drink. How often can you say that when you rate beers too much, like I do?
Indeed, this was worth kicking back to and it was obvious from the pour. A lovely shade of goldenrod in hue, this had plenty of thick, solid foam topping it off as it was slow and quiet to settle. A decent amount of suds were left behind as most of them were concentrated right above the liquid. Loads of banana, chocolate, and cake in the vibrant nose as the taste was just as pleasurable. Plenty sweet, a bit tart, and easy on the palate, this never felt like it had too much batter or heft to it as remained full in body but lighthearted enough to put a smile on my face. The vanilla was subtle and the coconut even less so, but they were there along with a bit of fruit patch.
Somewhere in the midst of all of this was the alcohol although I never felt it and I never even warmed up throughout my time with this. This was a true pastry beer minus the gimmicks, down to the soft sugary slickness that was left on my teeth when I finished this off. Canned on 7/30 with "ANNIVERSARY CAKE" written underneath that, this was indeed that and so much more. Here's to 5 more years and beyond for Source!
