For our first anniversary beer, we took some of our rich, smooth, and complex imperial stout, aged it for 5 months in bourbon barrels from Pine Tavern Distillery, and finished with with the addition of Madagascar vanilla beans. The flavors in this beer really come out as the beer warms up a bit.

On draft in the brewery. 12 oz. pour served on nitro in a commemorative stout glass. Poured from the tap it's colder than I would normally serve it. It pours a deep mahogany color with cola hues, and a large, creamy, light mocha head. It's an attractive pour. The smell features roasted malt, burnt chocolate, char, leather, tobacco, and modest bourbon notes. The taste opens higher bitter with burnt coffee, bakers chocolate, and earthy char. As it warms in the glass, however, it becomes sweeter and more complex with vanilla, sweeter chocolate, and some faint dark fruit. The bourbon is noticeable but its delicate and compliments the other tastes rather than overpowering them. As advertised in the menu notes, it really opens up nicely when it warms and breathes. Served on nitro, the mouth feel is silky smooth and creamy with nice viscosity. And with the modest (for a BA Stout) ABV of 8% , it's very drinkable. Overall, this Stout is well-crafted with all the expected tastes and a very approachable ABV. It's a fitting first anniversary offering from a new brewer that continues to impress.
