Don’t let the color fool you—this beer may pour like a stout, but one sip tells a different story. Crafted in the West Coast IPA tradition, it bursts with bright citrus and pine, while a touch of dark malt gives it its inky appearance and a subtle whisper of roast on the finish.

Pint pour on draught at the brewery. Served in a tulip glass. A lovely mahogany pour with cola hues at the bottom of the glass. It sport a finger cap of creamy, light khaki-colored foam with thick swirls of lacing that lasted through the pour. The smell includes roasted malt, mild citrus, and increasing notes of chocolate as it warms. Its taste opens with a firm malt base. There is hoppy bitterness and nutty char but those tastes are balanced by semi-sweet chocolate, along with lemon and grapefruit. It is well-balanced. This ale is fully-bodied and pleasantly carbonated, and the 6.6% ABV gives it good substance without affecting its drinkability. I love the Black IPA style and SoPo's first attempt is very solid. It would be great if SoPo made it part of the regular rotation.
