William Stanley North, known to appreciate a frothy beverage or two, founded Union Special in 1881 and is the inspiration behind Stan’s Amber. This Amber Ale is subtle and extremely drinkable. The malt and hops balance perfectly, and we’re sure you’ll enjoy the subtle hop aroma. This one’s not too sweet, not too hoppy—perfect for any occasion. Cheers Stan!

Pours a hazy reddish brown with a small khaki head fades but there is some lingering carbonation. Nose gets some toffee, mild hop aroma. Medium bodied nicely carbonated.

Had on tap. Clear dark red amber pour with an off-white cap and spotted lacing. Smells as it tastes: amber malts with toasted caramel and light pine resin hops. No depth or complexity but certainly classic. Feel is on the watery side, maltwork needs more building up. Average amber

I carried this can to the curb from Beermiscuous. A refreshing amber.
NEIPAs are usually my default after playing tennis or exercising. But, this is winter and this American Red fit the situation well; quench dryly.

A pretty amber/red, clear with nice foam. Smells are typical, malt balanced by hops; but only average. Tastes are better as the hops are refreshing, but not dominating. Finishes nicely semi-dry.

My first from Sew Hop'd, I was curious about their name and went on their website. Their brewery is a re-purposed manufacturing plant for heavy-duty sewing machines. That explains their name and follows the pattern of brewpubs giving people a reason not to just go to shopping malls. There are so many brewpubs to visit in this metro and so many near me in Chicago that I say I will visit, but don't. So, Sew Hop'd will not get a visit from me; but I will try another of their ales.
