Pours dark chocolate brown and is black in the glass. A slight, loose head is chestnut in color and quickly fades to a ring. When put to the light, a dark, mahogany halo can be seen through the Dogfish Head snifter.
Booziness is strong with hot bourbon. Peet and dark, almost burnt, malt can be distinguished. However, the alcohol fumes are detrimental.
The high level of sweetness is quite a surprise. There is some bitterness, but not enough to balance. Dark chocolate fudge obscures the malt and roast. Dates can be found in the long, lingering, sweet finish. Sweet bourbon lacks richness.
The body is light to thin and has a slick texture. Some residual sugar builds on the lips. Despite the overwhelming nature of alcohol on the aroma and the flavor, the actual effect on the palate is about as expected. Carbonation is light and barely noticeable.
This was a miss for me, as it is far too sweet and muddy. The bourbon overwhelms the beer without adding any pleasant characteristics.
