From the Brewer: "I brewed Westerly Flow with the intention of adding some of my own experience, personal taste and style to an already amazing San Diego IPA scene! I really wanted to add layers of flavor, aroma and depth that I feel are sometimes missing in other great examples of West Coast IPAs, which can sometimes be one-dimensional. Striking a balance between that dank-dank, fresh pine and ripe berry essence on the aroma with degrees of passionfruit and stone-fruit flavors, this double-dry-hopped West Coast IPA finished really dry but makes you think otherwise. Using generous amounts of my favorite hops, Nelson and Mosaic, we found that balance between ripe berries and fresh pine, but stayed away from that grassy and over-hopped flavor that can sometimes happen. Testing my ability as a brewer to try new techniques, utilize new ingredients and learn from other badass brewers around the community, we’re continuously trying to push the boundaries of 'what’s next?', and I’m pretty damn happy with how this one turned out! I'm stoked to see the evolution of IPAs, especially here in Southern California, and can’t wait to brew the next batch. Cheers and I hope y’all enjoy it!"—Zack Kaplan, Head Brewer, The Original 40 Brewing

Glass: Pure Project 14-oz. snifter elemental (fire) glass
Price: $3.69
From: Windmill Farms in San Diego (Del Cerro), Calif.
Purchased: Sept. 21, 2022
Consumed: Oct. 5, 2022
Misc.: Canned on Sept. 7, 2022
Went to Windmill Farms specifically for Dino Park, a collab between Toppling Goliath and North Park. Unfortunately it wasn’t there so instead I bought 12 singles and a 6-pack of Aurora Hoppyalis. Found a description on San Diego Beer News for this one that read “From the Brewer: "I brewed Westerly Flow with the intention of adding some of my own experience, personal taste and style to an already amazing San Diego IPA scene! Poured a medium amber semi-clear color with 2-to-3 fingers of rocky-to-frothy white head. Could see plenty of bubbles coming up along the sides and bottom of the glass at different speeds. World-class foamy lacing. World-class retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Smelled Mosaic, floral, berry, Nelson, tangerine, Tang, orange, Juicy Fruit gum, pink grapefruit and pineapple. Just as good from the can with the addition of some earthy pilsner malt. (Smell - 4.00)
Taste was just a tier down from the smell. Got plenty of spice too. In order got Nelson, tangerine, Tang, orange, Mosaic, floral, berry, Juicy Fruit gum, pink grapefruit, pineapple and lingering black peppery spice. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt, dry finish. (Feel - 4.25)
This was a pretty damn good beer. Would have this again for sure. (Overall - 4.25)

Clear deep yellow color with plenty of foam in the Chimay chalice. Pleasant fruity aroma of peach and mango. There's a sweet and malty start with a tangy sensation of citrus. Actually less citrusey than most current IPAs. Green melon taste with more peach and unknown fruity flavors, with just a touch of astringency in the aftertaste. The combination of Mosaic and Nelson hops seems to be a good one, and they've avoided overdosing. Still it's quite hoppy, but the bitterness is moderated. Highly sippable and full of flavor. From the 16 oz can purchased at the brewery tasting room in North Park. No apparent date.
