Named after KRS-One, the hip hop legend, this beer utilizes hops that spell out his name - Kohatu, Rakau, Strata and Bru 1. Weighing in at 8.8% but easy drinking, the hop profile is like a pine cone dipped in pineapple and blood orange.

Misc.: No canned on date

Grabbed a can of this and some other stuff while looking for some North Park cans at Windmill Farms. Really wish The Original 40 would put a canned on date on their cans, but I knew this one was fresh. Untappd called this “Named after KRS-One, the hip hop legend, this beer utilizes hops that spell out his name - Kohatu, Rakau, Strata and Bru 1. Weighing in at 8.8% but easy drinking, the hop profile is like a pine cone dipped in pineapple and blood orange.” Lots of newish hops there for me except for Strata. Had maybe a handful of Kohatu beers (intense tropical fruit and pine needle aroma) and Rakau ones (apricot, plum, mango, pear, and other stone fruits), but pretty sure I’ve never had Bru 1 (pineapple and stone fruit that is backed by a soft spice).

Poured three fingers of medium yellow-to-light golden mostly clear color with 2-to-3 fingers of white frothy head. Lots of bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Very good spotty lacing. Very good retention. (Sight - 4.00)

Smelled pine needle, caramel, pineapple, spoiled fruit, bitter grapefruit peel and melon. For hops, in order got Kohatu, Bru 1 and Rakau, hardly any Strata. Much smoother out of the can. (Smell - 3.75)

Taste was a tier down from the nose. I guess maybe not my favorite hops. Got pine needle, caramel, pineapple, spoiled fruit, bitter grapefruit peel, black pepper and melon. Lots of newish hops, but looking at profile I’d lean toward Kohatu, Bru 1 and then Rakau. Not as much Strata as I thought or was hoping. (Taste - 3.50)

Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt, bitter finish. (Feel - 3.75)

Just not my favorite offering, mainly because of the hops. (Overall - 3.50)
