This San Diego classic was first brewed in 2012! Bill Batten (AleSmith, Mikkeller, TapRoom North Park, Fall Brewing) and Cosimo have won World Beer Cup Gold and GABF Silver with this ever evolving brew. Layered flavors of dark fruit, chocolate, coffee and roast blend into the Cherrywood and Beechwood Smoked Malts for a robust yet refreshing experience.

Was looking forward to a this one. Bine & Vine description for this one read “This San Diego classic was first brewed in 2012! Poured a chestnut brown color with two fingers of khaki-tan frothy head. Could just a few bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Good spotty-to-foggy lacing. Very good retention. (Sight - 4.00)
Smelled charred beechwood, toasted caramel, roasty malts, black cherry, dark fruit, cacao, hazelnut coffee and bitter dark chocolate. Not as good from the can. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted even better than the nose. In order got charred beechwood, ashtray, toasted caramel, hazelnut, roasty malt, black cherry, dark fruit, cacao, roasted coffee and bitter dark chocolate. (Taste - 4.50)
Medium body. Creamy-to-sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, bitter, woody finish. (Feel - 4.50)
Damn, this was awesome. Even better than I thought it would be. Will be having some more of this for sure. (Overall - 4.50)
