16oz crowler filled upon demand yesterday at the brewery for somewhere between $7-8. Brewed for the winter 2026 edition of the local brewery competition known as the Lester Cup.
Poured into a Humble Abode shaker pint, this was a hazy golden amber. A somewhat thin head, off-white in color, briefly appeared before withdrawing to a mere skiff of foam.
Nose was of earthy wheat grain and of a light fruitiness, along with clovey notes indicating a Bavarian wheat yeast strain was used.
Flavor is pretty similar to the nose. Earthy wheat notes and clovey, slightly banana-like flavors from the yeast. There's also a fruitiness akin to apples and pears. At 6.5%, the abv is a little low for the style, so there's no alcohol flavor to speak of.
A decent wheat beer, perhaps a little short of the depth of flavor of a traditional wheat bock. I'm going to have to re-appraise this when I get a chance to try other Lester Cup aspirants.
