L- Effectively black, but held right in front of a halogen bulb it's ultra-deep ruby red. Clear, pours with a 2mm head (holds well and forms lacing on the way down).
S- Deeply roasty-toasty, deep enough it even penetrates by usual winter-time reduced sense of smell.
T- Brighter than it's look^ suggests. Some fleeting dry and hops on the front then zoom into HUGE coffee and slightly smokey fireplace log embers. The dry-hops come back in somewhat in the finish and leave a mild hoppy zing on my lips.
F- It doesn't come over at all heavy, oddly so given it's looks. I haven't rechecked (above or on bottle) the ABV%, and I'm having trouble guessing. A beer this pungent usually needs a solid ABV% to balance it; yet I get zero ABV%-zing here. ... No clues hmmm... maybe 7%?
O- It's lovely. Zero rough edges, zero out of place or balance, a distinct character too. I never used to drink 'black beer', blame growing up with fake-head factory Guinness. Beers like this one show what can be done by craftsment - it's a bit of a gem that I'd happily drink again.
Bought from BeersOfEurope/UK for home delivery. 330ml bottle with twist-off cap. BB: 22/03/2021.
