a really tasty white ipa, a style that seems to have risen up and receded pretty quickly a couple of years ago, feel like its been ages since i have seen one of these on a beer menu. appropriately hazy in the glass with a frothy inch of white head in the glass. smells a little overly yeasty to me, almost more of a belgian ipa, estery and high tone, with citrus and white wine popping. white and black pepper, coriander, and orange are also present in the nose, and this seems way more about the ferment than the hops, which fit in well but dont really make much of a statement until the bitter swallow, which i actually dig. the beer is just a little soupy and raw to me, more grain character and residual yeast in this than it needs, could be a lot more drinkable and refreshing with some cleaning up, but i cant complain, the flavors work pretty well. right beneath the yeast is a familiar citrusy hop profile with meyer lemon and sweet orange driving it, some green grape and green apple twang as well, incorporates well into the beer with the yeast. some spiciness on the finish and more as it warms, and a wheaty heaviness to the feel despite nice carbonation. this isnt experty executed by any means, but shows a ton of promise and i was just happy to encounter the style again, maybe its poised for a comeback! i wanted this to be a little lighter and more of a session thing, but cool effort nevertheless.
