Pours a dark orange-red with a thin, yellowish, brown head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of dry caramel and biscuit malt, dried plums, raisins and hints of citrus fruit. Flavor is dry caramel and biscuit malt, plums, raisins, dates and vanilla. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. The current version of this is labeled as an English barleywine, rather than an old ale and I have to agree. It is a quite authentic tasting barleywine of the English style that straddles the fruity plum flavored ones and the darker biscuit malt ones. The biscuit malt is solid old ale, but the fruit is classic English barleywine. Whatever it is, it's a very nice ale. Fine malt and fine fruit notes. The original was supposed to be bourbon barrel aged, but the new can doesn't say anything about that, so this might be a somewhat different brew. I'll be getting this again in its next reincarnation.

Boozy, copper-colored warmer. Nice to get bourbon in a different kind of ale other than stout. I like it.
