16oz can
Pours two fingers of dense tan head into my Nonic. Retention is average and the head fades within a couple minutes. Lacing is very patchy. Body is brown with some hues of burnt orange. Looks ok
At first the nose smells on the drier side, with notes of bitter burnt malt, and a touch of roast. Sweetness quickly comes through when the caramel and toffee start to show. Pretty well balanced. Smells great.
Flavor showcases some mild toffee, with a little roast in the background. Certainly an English brown, this does not have the depth of its American counterpart. Overall ok, but a little light for me.
Body is pretty light. Carbonation is on the higher side, with a significant mineral character, dies down pretty quickly though. Well attenuated and definitely on the drier side initially - over time some sugar does start to become more present. Slight bitterness is in finish. This mouthfeel changes quite a bit over only about 10 minutes, from dry and minerally to sweeter and more mellow. In the end it’s pretty well balanced.
Drinkability is perfectly fine.
Overall this beer goes through a lot of iterations. Ultimately the mouthfeel is pretty well balanced, but the flavor is still lacking a bit.
