Your intro to darker beers starts with brown ales! Not as heavy as stouts or porters, West Town Brown still hints at roasty chocolate deliciousness. Of course, as an American Brown, we had to throw in a bit more hops for some added spiciness.

L: Clear brown pour, khaki head, some spotty lacing.
S: Nose gets some malt, not much else.
T: A bit of chocolate, roast and nuts.
F: Smooth, nicely carbonated.
O: Not bad, not much of a brown ale guy.

A standard brown, but worth trying.
West Town doesn't look particularly distinctive, could have more foam and a more active yeast helps. Smells are also standard, sweet malt. Tastes are balanced with the hops coming in at mid-palate and staying present. Light in my mouth, but good enough bubbles.

I give better Overall Hugs to Midwest Coast because they are from the West Coast but have interpreted that lifestyle here in the Midwest, or as best as the melding can be done.

Had a 9 oz pour from the tap at Union in a tall glass. Light coffee brown with a quarter inch head. Couldn't discern much aroma but I didnt give it much of a chance. (I was too thirsty.) The taste is the headline. Malt balanced with a hint of spice but wonderfully light. Completely lacks the cloying goo that I'm finding more and more in dark beers lately. Mouthfeel had just enough sparkle to be interesting and refreshing without any sting. Best beer I've had in a very long time.

Shows a very nice dark ruby brown, with a generous light tan head. Aroma is slightly lacking, with malt notes upfront, and some walnut presence in the background. Taste is very good, with coffee and roasted flavors, as well as more walnuts lurking in the background. There are also the slightest smoke and brine notes detectable. Beer has a nice body, and a very restrained level of carbonation. Not the best brown ale out there, but a pleasant enough brew from a local producer.

Beautiful brown bodied pour with a full tan head and thick lacing. Unfortunately this was the highlight. Super earthy nose with hints of rye or some type of rustic grain, with brown sugar, toast and malt. Taste is more monotone with earth, yeast and malt, not bad but boring. Feel is medium-light bodied, kind of smooth but yeast disrupts a little, and somewhat dry, but crushable with a whisper of oxidation.

12 oz can into a pint glass.

Slightly hazy light brown chestnut color with a light tan head that left some lace. Very sweet, bready, nutty malt on the nose. Taste follows - pleasantly sweet but not too much. Lightly roasted nutty flavor balanced with some mild bitterness. Medium-light bodied, very smooth, goes down easy. A refreshing, crushable brown ale.

I am trying this beer off the tapper at The brewery as part of a five sample flight. It poured a clear rich amber with thin white head that is leaving some lace. The scent had rye notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with grain and rye presence bolstered by s sweet light malt. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a good beer.

Unknown vintage; drank 11/4/21 @ the Yarchives.

See-through brown appearance.

A violent pour yielded a big tan head; strong, frothy tree-rung lace.

Spring water & faint notes of citrus & brown sugar.

Medium thin mouthfeel.

Mild notes of acorn, citrus & brown sugar.

Pleasant, inoffensive...and pretty forgettable.

Pour from can into tulip glass

L: Warm amber brown with an amplified red where the light peaks through. Pours with a thick almond head with a light layer that sticks around
S: Very nutty, light roast quality akin to a light coffee roast
T: Refreshingly light and nutty. The roasty aroma is carried into the taste too, giving it a touch of dryness. Clean, sweet.
F: Soda-like carbonation and creamy medium body
O: Just a wonderful brown ale. All of the nutty, roasty characteristics I really enjoy in brown ales without anything being overdone.
