On tap at Thompson Island Brewing, Rehoboth Beach, DE.
Pours a pitch black color with a rapidly dissipating minimal mocha colored head. An ultra thin ring of lacing remains.
The nose is sweet with notes of Belgian waffles and dessert liqueurs. Aromas of dark chocolate, dark toasted malts, lightly roasty, Christmas spices and licorice.
Full bodied, creamy, smooth and mouth coating with lightly boozy spices. Sweet and malt forward with biscuity and toasty malts supporting the Belgian waffle adjuncts. Generously spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg, evokes Christmas spices. Flavors of milk and bittersweet dark chocolate, dark caramel, brown sugar and chocolate liqueur. I would have liked to see a bit more roasted malt presence and hops spice. The carbonation is gentle and the finish is boozy, slightly medicinal and with notes of licorice.
This is an ok beer to enjoy with dessert or as a nightcap as a smaller pour. I wouldn’t appreciate it as a stand alone as it’s a bit unbalanced in that it could use a bit more roasted malt bitterness and less booze.
