Thompson Island Brewing Co. "Boat Day White IPA"
one quart crowler filled on 8/28/21 and sampled on 09/02/21
Notes via stream of consciousness: So this is a white IPA brewed with Belgian yeast (I'm assuming) and lemon zest and orange peel. It's got the look with a hazy golden body and fluffy bright white cap. The head is holding up remarkably well,a nd there's some nie lacing where it's already fallen. The aroma is fairly clean with a wheaty malt note and some citrus. I'll say it's more orange than lemon. I get the orange but not the lemon, but you can tell that the lemon is adding something to it. It doesn't smell like Belgian yeast though. The flavor follows with a little more of everything, and perhaps a bit of coriander seed although that wasn't listed in the description. I get the woody spiciness though. So I can see why this is called "Boat Day", it's just a lighter bodied, average alcohol refresher that you could have several of. I should also note at this point before I forget that the lacing has continued throughout the glass, and I still have a solid surface covering of foam even after a thrid of the pint (Imperial). A moderate bitterness balances it - SCRATCH ---- what exactly makes this a white IPA? It's not that strong, it's not bitter, and it's not super hoppy. Oh, well, it's close enough I guess. In the mouth it's light-medium in body and gently crisp-then-smooth across the tongue. In the end it's pretty well done. It's nicely balanced and rounded, and quite refreshing and highly drinkable.
