Draft at Dos Segundos Cantina.
Pours a hazy pale golden yellow color with a half dinger white foam head that quickly settles into a thin lastig ring. Sporadic spots of lacing left behind.
Earthy aroma with hints of bread/yeast, zesty spice and citrus peel. Lots of peppery clove and lemon peel as well as hints of apple and pear.
Fuller bodies than expected with lots of bread/yeast flavor balanced out by sweet citrus fruit and a prominent spice character. There's a blast of peppery cloe up front that lingers throughout into a crisp, dry finish. This is countered by the bread flavor as well as a prominent lemon juice/citrus peel character as well as subtle apple and pear. Crisp and refreshing but it's a bit too heavy on the clove/spice for my liking.
Edit: As I continued to finish the glass the clove presence became almost unbearable and an unpleasant alcohol flavor emerged.

This was not the worlds worst beer, but certainly not good and definitely disappointing. I like going to Dock Street for great pizza and really good beer, but last night I got only the former.
This saison looked a nice cloudy straw yellow, lemonade in color and clarity. Served in a tulip, this was a really nice presentation. The aroma for this beer was a little lacking, there was a bit of malted grain and some citrusy fruit but not much else. The taste reflected this, with a hint of husky grain at first, a touch of fruit flavor and then BAM! I got hit with hops and a bitter medicinal flavor. I looked at the description again to see if I didn't miss anything, but this tasted like much more than 28IBU. The lingering bitter aftertaste was unpleasant and my friend described it as "smokey." Whatever it was, it was a flaw in the beer and I did not enjoy it. Saisons should have spicy flavors and earthy characteristics, but they should not be harsh, overly bitter, or too phenolic.
I'm not a beer judge, but a homebrewer, which leads me to think the culprit for the off-taste could be fermentation temperatures that were too high, inadequate de-chlorination of the brewing water, or contamination. Either way, it was not good. I might have considered sending it back if I weren't with polite company

A - Served in a sweaty tulip, Saison DuPotts is a hazy, opaque golden/orange-toned brew with a bubbly white head that settled into a quarter inch of retention, depositing spotty lace around the rim of the glass.
S - Initial aroma offers a strong yeast presence with lots of fruity esters and citrus notes. Quite spicy as well, with hints of pepper and clove. Overall, this saison is quite earthy, musty and dank, with some perfumy notes also emerging as the liquid reached room temperature.
T - The flavor is characterized by an earthy, yeasty presence with a spicy base of black pepper and a hint of clove. Some juicy citrus notes appear in the middle to quell the funky dankness of the farmhouse attributes. Finishes with a slightly moldy, earthy and cellar-esque quality.
M - Dry and effervescent with funky sour notes on the palate and a hint of residual sweetness. Finishes with quite a bit of lingering bitterness and a good bit of sourness on the palate.
D - Fine saison with lots of complex flavor and aroma elements. Saison DuPotts is dominated by an earthy character with lots of spicy, fruity rumblings happening below the surface.

This beer reminds me of a dialed back Sam Adams Imperial Pils for the super earthy and grassy hop profile. There's also big sharp lemon rind with crush pepper and almost no malt presence. The beer drinks very dry and bitter. It's way hoppier than your average saison, but Belgian IPA fans will enjoy.
